What I'm Thinking About...

  • *gulp* Training for a 10k.*

  • A new bed. We loathe our Sleep Number.

  • My kids. They are growing too fast.

  • My knees. They hurt. They will cause an issue with bullet #1.

  • Monsanto. Watch this. Unless you're my Dad, then don't. It's infuriating. I don't see myself actively fighting this on a large scale, but I will fight this within my own little family. So get your GMO-laden junkfood away from my precious cargo. Or I'll beat you with a stick. We watched this movie a few weeks ago and I'm still a little bit nauseous. It literally made me almost throw up. And to think we live in a free country. Bah. You won't find me drinking the Kool-aid and donning the Nikes. GO LOCAL, people.

  • Our upcoming ROADTRIP with my folks. I'm so excited...the kids are so excited. I'm not sure if poor Evan is....

  • Plums. Yum.

  • Swimming lessons. One day left.

  • Our neighbors. They are awesome. Abby brought over a huge plate of authentic Ethiopian food last Saturday. We had injera, curried veggies, collard greens and red lentils that had cooked all day outside in a big pot on the grill. They were super spicy and delicious. Now if we could just get neighbors on the other side of us....

  • Coffee. I'm addicted. Arggggh. I hate it.

  • Check out my latest book review. My husband is even reading it. So. Hilarious.

  • I was feeling like I hadn't given any effort to this blog lately. So this is my uber lame attempt at getting myself out there again.

*Thinking.

oh....and independence is getting a monsanto. the townfolk are excited. i've read a tiny bit about the company itself online...eeek. i have a great friend that works in plant genetics..and she firmly believes without science there wouldn't be enough food to feed the masses. whatever...what they're feeding the masses isin't FOOD.

there is a whole blurp about that in the movie. monsanto takes over these poor countries and doesn't allow them to grow anything other than gm seed. it drives them out of their family farms, takes their food and leaves them starving. the whole reason there are masses of starving people is because of them. the movie will make you flippin' (teehee) mad.

monsanto? haven't heard of it. seems like i don't want to - ugh! you go girl (on the 10k) i was just thinking today that is something i will probably never do!

mindy -- they are the major seed company for corn, soybeans and canola. their seed is gmo and patented. i highly recommend watching the movie. highly. and then we can discuss it. they are creating seeds that will produce if sprayed with monstanto pesticides and herbicides...forcing farmers to spray and forcing the chemicals into our food supply.

BUT, we already steer clear of soy and corn products so my decision about that has just been significantly reinforced.

Shannon said...

i meant to say produce "only" if sprayed with chemicals...

Awhile back we jokingly talked about having to live like they did back in the old days. Grow your own wheat to grind, raise your own meat, vegt, etc. But know I realize it isn't so far-fetched. Thanks for sharing that video. I haven't watched it all, but enough to get the point.

We have a sleep # too, and I don't really like it. It's an older model tho, and a queen. Our Daughter & SIL has one, a King, and they LOVE it.
And I haven't watched it yet, but does anyone wonder why there is such a huge problem with allergies & food issues, health problems?
And have you read other Jodi P. books? I thought "song of the h.b..." sounded very interesting, but haven't read it yet. I did find some of the others hard to get into.

j's -- oh, absolutely. and rampant cancer. there will never be a cure for cancer because the gene that is needed for research has a patent on it so nobody can use it. besides, look at how much money would be lost. same with the common cold. it's all about money. i recently read a quote "if you don't understand a situation, look for the financial interest". couldn't get any more true.

i love jodi picoult books....they really make you think and wonder what exactly we're capable of as humans. most of them a pretty disturbing though. i read 'perfect match' awhile back and had to read it all in one night because i was afraid of nightmares.

I like. (your blog) And I love. Our sleep number. No more back aches for me. I AM going to watch that diddly about Monsanto. Am thinking it is going to reinforce all that I already have an opinion about.

LIW--we loved our sleep number when we first got it. loved it for about the first year. ever since then....it feels like we're sleeping on a poor air mattress. which, i guess we are...

it seems like we can reset it and it's great for a night...and then it's back to stiff necks and sore backs.

Too bad we live so far apart....I've been thinking about running a 10k too. But that's as far as I've gotten.

I'm gonna have to watch that movie. We try to stay away from corn and soy too, but this will probably make me more diligent.

a 10k. yay. ;) you can do it. monsanto is kind of a scary company from a lot of different angles. i knew that without watching the movie.

We too love our sleep number. We had problems with it a few years ago only to discover the slats in the foundation had busted through the bottom. Thanks to the 20 year warranty & a call to customer service, they sent us a new one at no charge. It made a huge difference. They said their foundations have been a common problem. I know of 3 similar situations were the foundation was the problem.

is that something that is visible if i life the bed up?

kuddos on the 10k too, umm..i gave myself "runner's knees" when i got all cranked up to run a coupel of months ago...start SLOWLY....i got excited and ran everyday...hence the knee problem!! where's the book review btw?

Ethel said...

and i always love your blog no matter how often you update ( summertime is crazy is it not?) and Monsanto is located directly accross the river..from ME!! i just can't get too riled up cuz i can get riled up easily. so i won't get riled up ...i do eat local. and organic when possible. but somehow a few bits of junk fook gets throught the cracks...gaaaack!

Shannon said...

martha---i have knee issues anyway...i was told i couldn't carry babies until i had surgery...but i did. three of them. and now they're pretty much shot. i've done lots of rehab without results.

my book reviews are on the right sidebar under "i just read". they are reeeeeally lame reviews.

Actually look under the bed (foundation) & see if any of the slats have broken through the side rails.
