Every once in a while....

I love this video. Someone needs to rewrite it so it pertains to kids! They make us grin...but every now and then: I wanna talk about me!! I don't particularly have anything in mind so I thought I'd open up the comments to allow anonymous and you can all ask whatever burning question you've just been dying to have answered by me....hahahaaaaaa....! I'll feel important for a while...then I can go back to wiping noses, butts, tables, floors.....

hahaha! I LOVE that song! I'd never seen the video, that's funny!
Come on over to the "tea party" & spill with the rest of us!!

oh how funny! I just went over there, and you've already been there!
That'll teach me look before I open my mouth (well, probably not, but nice thought anyway!)

Funny...people who know me would probably say I look just like that.

My question (if it isn't to personal) what type of eating disorder did you have? Also, I was wondering why you are against pacifiers? (I was reading your 100 things about me list and came across that!...made me curious.):0)

Shannon said...

"eating disorder not otherwise specified". i starved, binged and purged and wasn't faithful to either one.

first, i don't judge or think less of any parents who choose to use a pacifier.

the nuk is an easy fix that may cause parents not to seek to understand what is bothering the baby. that's the main reason. babies cry because they need something. they don't need a nuk shoved in their mouth. babies suck when they are tired, bored, or in need of comfort. so...rock them, talk to them or play with them, hold them...comfort. babies crying seem to be an annoyance in our society.

Annie and Len said...

i find them very useful at daycare where i got 8 babies to care for at the same time...and can't hold all at the same time. but yeah i agree that if there was one baby it probably wouldn't be needed as much. glad they make them:) i hate it when i see 4 year olds with nuks tho.

Amber said...

The nuk is a life saver in the car and in meeting, but I can see your point too.....i've never thought of it that way. I guess I feel like sucking comforts them and if they needed something more they'd refuse the nuk. I do cuddle them at tthe same time though, I suppose someone could force the nuk to take the place of actual stimulation or comfort. Thanks for your veiw.:0)

Subject: Pacifiers
What if they are fed, dry, and you are holding them, rocking them and doing everything under the sun that you can think of and they still won't stop crying? I think nuks are great for babies, but as the kids grow older, they need to find another way to self-sooth.

Ugh, PACIFIERS -- i HATE that word right now. We've decided Saturday is the day when we're going to have a rule that Jaden can only have a pacifier when he is in bed. It's going to be a miserable weekend around here. I should never have let him have it this long -- I've learned many things with Jaden that i'm not going to do with Camden. I agree, pacifiers shouldn't be used in place of loving and cuddling.

rgblazek said...

Interesting. I think it depends on the baby. My first never took a pacifier she never really needed one. Maybe, I had more time to soothe her. We've used one with the next three. I am sure they would have been thumb suckers without it. And while it is so cute when they are babies it is a hard habit to break. Gina

micah & ayla weren't much into pacifiers, but we noticed kaia sucking her fist right after she was born. i really think some babies like/need to suck more than others. we still don't give it to her much though. before i even read all these comments i was sitting in mtg. noticing all the big babies (as in 1 & 2 years old)had nuks. my baby was the youngest one there & didn't have one - thought that was funny.

Janelle said...

I totally agree with you on the pacifier thing. When Brooke was tiny, I thought I might have to eat my words, as the only thing that would calm her down at nights was a pacifier. But then I discovered that she had a milk sensitivity and when I stopped eating all dairy, she was fine. Didn't need the paci anymore. Yah!

What's the tea party blog? Are you going on your cruise with Lowell & Margaret? We used to meet with them on Sundays. Tell them 'hi' from us!

Do/Did you have some emotional disorder, I have read that you were seeking a therapist, but it was getting too expensive.. just wondering...

Anonymous said...

What made you decide to have a 3rd child?

Shannon said...

Anon--yes. if you want further info you can shoot me an email at sh7joy1@yahoo ...create an anonymous email account or something.

Anon--well, ya see...there is this thing that grownups do...haha! what made us decide?? we wanted more. i'm pretty sure we're done...at least, i want to be. hubby hasn't scheduled his appointment with the 'vet' yet =)

Shannon said...

oh yeah...we tried and tried and tried to get avrie to take a nuk when she was tiny...wouldn't have it. i was desperate. i don't think they are horrible....i do see them useful occasionally. the dependence on them is just not something i want to deal with.

shadon said...

my nanny boy had a pacifier until he was 3 or 4 (i am totally against it beyond 2 yrs old...and thts pushing it). it definately affects the teeth when they suck on it for that many years. he always put everything into his mouth if he didnt have the pacifier. he is now 6 (no pacifier and much better/straighter teeth!) but he DEFINATELY has some sort of oral fixation because everything STILL goes into his mouth. it's like an unconcious action. his sister was the complete opposite. so i definately agree that some kids are born just more orally fixated than others.

Amber said...

I wondered if you'd tried a nuk with Avrie...I got to thinking more about what you said that babies crying is an annoyance to oour society....I always hate when people ask if Archer's a "good" baby. Of course he's a good baby, despite that he cries more than my others. Why is it that we adults are allowed to have crabby days and complain when we don't feel good, but when babies cry they don't feelk good, they're considered "bad" babies?

p.s. Let's plan n the 24th, I have an open schedule...where should we meet?

Shannon said...

amber! i hate that too....the "good baby" thing. i mean...who has a BAD baby? avrie was challenging but in no way was she bad. argh.

i forget...where are you going to be again?

Neisha said...

We gave Kylie a pacifier and she had it all the time. Rewind time...she wouldn't have it as much as she did. Nolan wasn't much interested in one which was great. I feel...no pacifier after 2! Like Shadon said...not good for the teeth. Also, don't give your toddler (age 1-2) a pacifier in meeting just so they will be quiet...it doesn't work, they talk around it.

My question to you...how do you get your family to eat some of the foods you serve? I was looking at your food blog. We aren't into "health" food like some people are but I'm curious as to how to get the kids to eat it.

Neisha said...

just watched the video...great song.
I also like your idea about us asking questions about you. hope you don't mind that i borrow it.

Shannon said...

Neisha---they don't know it any different. we don't really eat any different than anyone else...my kids love hot dogs and macaroni and cheese...BUT i choose organic grassfed nitrate free hotdogs and either make my own mac and cheese or use annie's whole wheat. they like pancakes drenched in syrup but i don't use bisquik...i make high protein pancakes with free-range farm fresh eggs, cottage cheese and rolled oats. we top them with frozen (thawed) blueberries and real maple syrup instead of hungry jack load of crap.

they won't drink milk from the store...it tastes "yucky". however, i was raised on store milk and don't really care for the taste of grass-fed farm milk, which is what we get now. it's all what your taste buds are used to.

amber--hubby has to work x-mas eve day...so, nope.

back to the comments about babies crying. Whenever I take care of my sister's kids/babies and they cry in public I feel like I am doing something wrong that they are crying, maybe that is why people turn to pacifiers as a quick fix.

Annie and Len said...

i get funny looks from some parents at work if another child is crying..as if its not ok. usually i know just what is wrong..sometime its just that their milk is still warming in the warmer..which they CAN wait 2 minutes for!!

How old were you when you got married? And would you let Avrie get married at that age?

I was 19 when we got married, and thought nothing of it...until my first daughter was born and my mom asked me if I'd let her go at 19...it made me cry to even think of it!

Shannon said...

mel--18. i did PSEO and graduated from college in dec 2000. got married january 2001 and came home to graduate from high school in june. a bit mixed up, eh?? i sure hope avrie waits longer! my parents didn't try to talk me out of it....not that they could have...but they knew evan was a good guy...right mom?

Gwen said...

yah mom has been lurking..haha..

When/why did you get interested in "healthy" diet/eating? and are you interested in other "natural" issue's?

Shannon said...

j's -- when nolan was born i had lots of time on my hands and i would check out stacks upon stacks of books from the library. he was about 2 months old when i got "the whole foods bible" or something like that. i started checking out natural health and 'diet' books. i happened to mention to our elder's wife my new interest in food, health, etc. she immediately went to get me a book her sister (gretchen swenson) highly promoted. it was "nourishing traditons" by sally fallon. i read it front to back in a week...it's a BIG book. she happened to be in town doing a conference soon after that and i immediately signed up.

why? i want the best possible health for my family.

yes. i have dabbled in homeopathy, herbology and essential oils, chiropractic and accupuncture. i put more faith in eastern medicine than western. we don't vaccinate and i'm pretty anti anti-biotics in most situations. our country is supposedly the most advanced and safest to live...hardy har har har. we have rampent obesity, heart disease and cancer. if we want to be healthy we need to take our healthcare into our own hands.

Ben, Heather & kids said...

I don't know you at all, maybe I've seen you, I think we live relativly close (we're in the menomonie field). But we're trying to get into the natural thing. My husbands family is big into it.. no shots, no antibiotices, wholesomes food, etc I'd love to get some resources from you if you don't mind. country_rhythm at yahoo dot com or leave a comment at my blog.
* I applaud you for doing "natural", when it is so UNnatural in today's society.

what is your IQ? I'm betting it's sort of up there.
When are you going to come visit me? ( I asked Neisha that too!) and this party sounds fun at Mindy's house! I love parties. I'll be thinking of ya!
What else do I want to know? Have you worked out some way that you're going to get some fun sun time on your cruise? Lots of help with watching the kids or are they staying with your parents? See? I had lots of ?????

Shannon said...

martha---heeheehoooaaahoo....gasp...you make me laugh. i have no idea what my IQ is but i feel very dumb. i'm not good AT ALL at logistics...like 'bob left point b at 3 and sue left point a at 4...what time did they meet'...can't do that stuff for the life of me. seriously...like, if my life depended on it i couldn't do calculus...because i never took it in school.

fun sun time....hummm...i'm sure we'll get some =) kids are coming along....everyone is!

Nate, Tara, and Jaden said...

So, what's with this party at Mindy's? Am i being invited? Is it rude to invite myself?

How was transitioning from 2 kids to 3? Was it harder than going from 1 to 2?

Mindy said...

tara - you can come too. gonna be lots of kids it seems, but what's 2 more?!

Shannon said...

2-3 was harder for me. 1-2 was a breeze but i think it was because of nolan's personality...very laid back and self-sufficient.

Anonymous said...

Is your van still clean?

Shannon said...

hahaha!!! that's the best question yet! NO. big fat NO.

Shannon said...

oh...whoops....yes, as a matter of fact i have kissed a dog. with tongue. HER name was buffy.

hahaaaaaa

Amber said...

I was confused about the comment too...I think she thought it was my husband (guess she didn't bother to really read my blog, it couldn't have been that hard to figure it out, what with the pictures down the side bar...and the little stool in front of the toilet) if you read it, it does sound like a drunk, but why would I post a picture of my drink husbands turd without a rant on how wrong it would be? Interesting...I did finally find her blog, she's, um, interesting...BERNTHIS.COM.

shadon said...

amber--read tht bernthis.com blog..ur right, its very...interesting! ok ok, its just plain weird!!
