Tis the season...

In the past I haven't advertised that we don't vaccinate our children because it just leads to 'dumb mother' remarks. I just love this conversation...I urge you to read the fine print on your flu vaccine if you choose to go that route. Someone already left a comment that says it perfectly:

The best vaccination against ill health: Eat non-gmo, organic produce, non hormone laden meats...non fluoridated water, no sugary soda or aspartame, sucralose (*splenda & equal) laced regular foods(*they are insecticides). Do your own research...find out the truth!

Ahh yes! Sucralose. As if it wasn't awful enough to have to search out the splenda emblem on a container. Awhile back I developed a thing for fuse beverages that, oh joy, only had 20 calories in the whole container. I should have known better. Suffice it to say, my system was "off" for days...mom finally pointed out the sucralose hidden in the ingredients list. Never mind the bold no artificial colors, flavors, etc....

Like the new ads out for corn syrup? Saying how it has less calories than sugar....or something. My beef with it is that its in EVERYTHING! Who cares about the caloric content.

We're reluctantly doing a delayed vaccine schedule with our kids. We do not give our kids the flu shot. Our pediatrician in MN told us there is no benefit. By the time the virus gets here it's changed so much that it isn't the same virus. Eating healthy and staying away from all that 'junk' is the way to go.

my dad asks me every year if i've gotten the kids' flu shots yet. i made the mistake of telling him once we weren't going to. that ended up to be a dumb mother conversation. now when he asks i vaguely answer not yet. you just can't convince some ppl!

No vaccinations in this house, and my kids are very very RARELY EVER sick!

I'd have to do a little research before saying no to ALL vaccinations, but certainly most we can skip. But the poor old drug companies might miss a few billion if everyone decided to skip the vacs! My daug. has a hard time finding a pediatrician that she really likes that is opened minded about this and sho is on the ins. plan.

I agree with you 150% on the flu shot. I've never given it to my children and neither my husband nor myself have ever gotten it. My doctor (OB dr) point blank told me that he has to offer it, but they usually don't even get the strain of the flu right, so the odds of getting the flu are just the same, if not better, than not getting it. My dad did get it one year, and he was sicker than a dog for several days afterward. Never again...

I have vaccinated my kids for the 'regular' vaccinations, such as polio, chicken pox, etc. I feel that those are things that you cannot avoid by controlling your diet, and since so many people have not gotten the vaccines, those diseases that were rarely heard of are coming back. There was an outbreak at a college campus near our house last year actually.

I do agree wit you though...this is a VERY touchy subject!!! Also one I've had a difficult time with myself, as a mother. Do I...don't I???

There have been 30 confirmed cases of whooping cough in douglas county this fall. fergus falls has also had an outbreak of wc. i have a friend at work whose two month old grandson nearly died from wc contracted from a 20+ cousin who had never been vacc for it and had it. lots of virus are spread by poor hand hygene but wc is spread by droplets in the air.

Unfortunately many of the cases of WC are those who have been vacc. against it too. All I can say to people, is don't take someone's (or a Dr.'s) word for it, do the research for yourself.

ditto.

i have faith in the choices i have made. i feed my kids immune systems...which is why i get pretty ticked off when people want to feed my kids absolute garbage that wrecks havoc on their germ fighting ability.
