Rain, Rain, Come Again!

Today is the first day I've been alone all day with the kids since Cole was born. Mom went home on Saturday and Evan was here Sunday and Monday all day. I'm quite happy with the morning so far...it's 10:20 and we're all fed (I even made pancakes), dressed and the sink is empty and the dishwasher is running. I think Mother Nature knew I needed it to be a rainy day. Rainy days are movie days here. Which means the kids stay out of my hair for an hour. Or two. Or three. Shame on me.

I was sleeping by 11 last night. Cole was up at 1. He nursed* me dry and then proceeded to fuss for 20 minutes until he pooped. Then he was hungry again. I warmed up 2 ounces of pumped milk and he guzzled that down. I then figured I'd better pump 2 ounces so my supply doesn't dwindle. He's wide awake while I'm hooked up to the "mean machine" (what Nolan calls the pump). By this time it's 2:45. Avrie wakes up screaming "red bus ride". I kick Evan out of bed to go console her. I rock Cole to sleep and finally crawl into bed at 2:57. I try to fall asleep without relaxing...relaxing just hurts too bad. 3:01---crying baby. 3:11---back in bed. 7:15---Cole starts to stir and I hop out of bed lickety split so he doesn't wake Nolan and Avrie up but he's already fallen back asleep. 7:22---Nolan crawls in bed and starts pestering me to wake up. And tell me that it's raining and he wants to watch a movie. YAWN.

*I have a love/hate relationship with nursing. I HATE the first couple weeks. I LOVE the rest of the time. Nolan nursed until 18 months and Avrie until 14. If this is my last baby, he can nurse as long as he'd like. I always manage to develop thrush during the engorgement period. I've never cried during a contraction...completely different type of pain. I bawl during thrush. It's beyond painful. Beyond. I went to Urgent Care on Monday morning and got a dose of Diflucan. Hoping it kicks in today. The upside is...Cole will take a bottle. That's something Nolan and Avrie would never do.

Now you're officially bored and have TMI I'm sure. I'm hoping for a quick nap before Avrie gets bored with Pooh.

I totally agree with you on nursing. I love nursing, but the first few weeks are brutal! Glad you're doing well. Cole is adorable!! Hope you got a nap.....I still nap every chance I get and my baby is 9 months old already!!

Oh, you poor thing, all the memories come back of that first while with all those wakeups...but you have 2 kids on top of that! Good job getting breakfast and dishes done already...very impressive!

ayla had thrush, but i don't remember it being so bad. however, i had mastitis twice with micah & i said i'd rather give birth any day than suffer through that!

The first few weeks were miserable, especially with an older child all elbows and knees. I still haven't pumped this time around...the thought of cleaning all that stuff is enough to make me cry. This kid will probably never take a bottle!

so far cole doesn't seem to have it...just me. but he has a checkup on friday and i'm going to request a prescription for nystatin anyway because passing it back and forth is about inevitable. when i'm engorged, trying to get a good latch is pretty difficult...like trying to latch onto a bowling ball. so then i get damaged nipples and then the yeast gets in...ouch.

Liam had thrush...but I never got it...I've heard its painful. Liam appears to be a tiny bit tongue tied (haven't had a dr look) but its not interfering.

never thought of it getting "in"....youch! mastitis was not fun either! So...when your grimacing through the pain of nursing these first weeks, just remember, someday your babies head WILL be bigger than your boob...instead of the other way around!

ha! my babies are always bigger than my boob!

i'm all over the board when it comes to boob size. i have bras from b-cups to e-cups. let me tell ya...a boob lift i can totally see paying money for.

i'm with you on the boob lift plan, however, you don't need one now! i am having painful flashbacks to thrush ( on me!) oh man! that was the WORST! glad you know what to do this time around, pro mom! sounds like you're doing super..make yourself take it easy cuz remember you're still running on adrenelin, k?!

Gentian Violet is supposed to help with thrush...I used it with Brookelyn and I never really got it bad. She did though, poor baby. Hang in there:)

i do have a bottle of GV...i used it with avrie but can't remember if it helped. it's so darned messy! i may give that a shot tonight though. i did read somewhere that it has been linked with mouth cancer...dunno if that's true or not.

I think I can speak for a few of us who are regular readers of you blog and say that we don't mind the "TMI" In fact I think that it is part of what makes your posts so interesting.
