Summer + Blog = Not So Much

  • We've spent every possible minute either in the backyard, at various awesome parks or at the pool.
  • We were at a park last night and were using the Port-a-Potty. I was holding the door open for Nolan so I could supervise what his little hands touched and to ventilate so he didn't asphyxiate. I bent down to help Avrie get a rock out of her shoe and when I look up Nolan has grabbed both sides of the urinal and has his head all the way inside. And they were out of anti-bacterial gel. Go figure.
  • At 4:30 this morning I hear "Mommy" yelled 4-5 times. I rush in and Nolan says "Mom, where's my butterfly"? He had been having a dream. The cool caterpillar has been in his cocoon for a while now.
  • I hate juice boxes. Really. Until a kid is old enough...in my experience, 4 years...they squeeze it EVERY TIME.
  • I took Avrie to our chiro on Friday afternoon and he did an allergy workup for chemicals and foods. The only thing that showed up was dairy, raw and pasteurized. It is a sensitivity and not a full-blown allergy. So we are eliminating dairy and restoring her digestive tract with probiotics and we'll see what happens. This may or may not be what is causing her eczema. Which looks almost gone at times and horrid at others. I also treated her for 48 hours with sulphur...so who knows if that has helped reduce the eczema as well. I really have no idea. Easy, portable snacks of cheese and yogurt have gone down the tubes. I feel like she's getting way too many carbs now. Although last night she ate a whole forest of broccoli.
  • Baby Boy must be going through a growth spurt. I got 8 hours of sleep Sunday night, had a 2 hour nap in the afternoon and still needed coffee at 9 PM to get me through until bedtime. I got 8 hours last night and I'm exhausted now at 8:45. Baby-growing is hard work.

Hey you.... I hear you summer=no blog! We have been busy here... Wanted to suggest - they make these cups made for juice boxes. Kierstin has a elmo one and it does wonders! The juice box fits right in there! Take care!

Yes, juice boxes are a joke. Even if you spend a fortune and buy the hard juice box holders (times two, for each child) they still end up dumped, squeezed or spilled. Good ol' sippy cups!!

Speaking of sippycups....at what age are they no longer acceptable?!?! Nolan is more than capable of drinking out of a regular cup without spilling but most often I give him a sippycup because he drinks more that way.

I find nothing wrong with a sippycup at age 4...even at age 5. Megan is 3 1/2 and drinks fine out of a 'big person' cup, but I still give her a sippy cup when we go outside, run errands, etc. She drinks out of a 'big person' cup at mealtimes and such. She has the last stage Playtex cup...it looks like a real cup and has a ridge on top that they drink out of...if that makes sense. Both of my girls use that kind of cup actually. I say Nolan is just fine.

We aren't using sippy cups so much anymore now that the boys are both able to drink out of a regular cup. But, honestly, I don't think there's a magic age where they aren't acceptable anymore... considering that I walk around with my Camelbak (adult version of the sippy cup anyone?). I just hate cleaning up sippy cups, so I'm not sad to see us using them less. The boys drink out of my Camelbak now because I'm too lazy to fill up sippy cups to haul along everytime it's time to go somewhere.

i just put sippys in the dishwasher...valves in the silverware holder. but, yeah, i know what you mean.

we all have sigg bottles and the kids use them all the time for water...but they are pretty much a sippy cup too.
