My Unbelievably Fantastic Night...

**I call the Urgent Care this morning to see why the fax didn't go through. They had sent it to Cub. Which is right next to CVS on their little pulldown menu for selecting a pharmacy. To make it even worse, CVS is right next to Cub so I was a short walk away from my prescription last night. ARGHH**

**Oh, and Avrie has had two foaming from the mouth tantrums already this morning.**

I suspected all day yesterday that I was getting mastitis. I got red streaks late afternoon and decided I'd better go in at 7:15. I went to the Target clinic and arrived at 7:35. They are open until 8. They turned me away claiming that their last patient would take 30 minutes. Ridiculous. They can't do that. So, I left and tried to figure out where I'd go and eventually turned around and went back to Target. I got there at 7:50 and the last patient was just checking out. They still refused to see me. I tried talking to the store manager but she didn't have any control over the clinic. Evan found me an Urgent Care that was open until 9 so I headed up there and was in and out within 7 minutes. He had supposedly faxed my prescriptions to CVS. I arrive at CVS and she hasn't gotten the fax. It's 8:55. I try calling the clinic but get the stupid automated system which gives no way to actually reach a person. I leave CVS bawling and fuming with no antibiotic or painkiller.

I took a big handful of Advil before bed and alternated heat and ice all night. It looks terrible this morning but feels a smidgen better. A smidgen is hardly noticeable in the case of mastitis. Needless to say, Target Clinic is getting a nice call from me this morning.

Thats crap! Mastitis sucks! Next time try putting a call into the midwives that delivered?? They might just call the script in for you?? Hopefully there wont be a next time?

I used to get Mastitis too. It is awful. I remember icing and it not helping much till I got the medicine. When I had my surgery on my brests, I wanted to ice and the doctor said I couldn't! Guess I can't speed up the swelling from going down. It may be 3-6 months before it is all gone, but I am happy with my size finally. Now for my gut. Yug.

Oh my...from one mastitis-inflicted mom to another, I feel your pain! (Okay, I don't currently have mastitis, but I can honestly say I've had it at LEAST 20 times. No lie)
As for the Target Minute Clinic...I say go squeeze the nurse's boobs really really hard.

one thing you need to understand is that cabbage leaves work. next time put one on the afflicted boob. i mean it. i've had 4 kids. i know this stuff. always always have cabbage in the fridge. it works plain and simple. end of story. call me with terrible afflictions ...i've had them all. thrush is worse ( and not the kind that the kid has..the kind YOU get...)

martha...i do agree that thrush is worse. i've had it twice with cole and once with each of the others. luckily i have a bottle of nystatin on hand in case we develope it now from the antibiotics. hopefully not. i used cabbage leaves for engorgement but they warmed up so fast that i had to replace them every two minutes. is it not the cold that helps but something in the cabbage?

Cabbage leaves do work. I was going to suggest that too. My sister had a terrible time with mastitis, but she used cabbage leaves and a potato poultice which prevented her from being on antibiotics all the time. She got mastitis at least once a month for the 1st yr of both her boy's life. Ick!

Oh and I forgot to add that it's something in the cabbage that helps. Can't remember what right now.....

amazingly, i've never had mastitis. i have had plugged ducts, which are no fun. sorry you had to be in pain for so long and hope you feel better soon. can't imagine nursing is a treat with throbbing boobies;0)

oh...and another thing...drink plenty of water. i bet you were cleaning house like a mad woman while the kids were gone and maybe didn't drink enough of the h20? maybe?
and ,no, it's not the cold in the cabbage but one of those enzymatic thingys. you know.

How awful... what did the Target clinic tell you when you followed up with them?
