Afternoon Excitement

A house a few doors down went up in flames this afternoon. We got to watch the whole thing from beginning to end. It was a really small house so it only took about 15 minutes for them to put it out. The kids were mesmerized. We watched them open the hydrant and hook up the hose. We saw them climb the ladder to the top of the house and use their axes to cut a big hole. We watched the fire men carry the big hose in through the front door and the flames leap out the top of the house through the hole. Now all they can talk about is fire trucks! They have a CD with a song called "Fire Truck" and it's been playing nonstop since we got back. Oh, and we stood out in the rain to watch it...the kids were thrilled to be able to use their rain boots for their intended purpose!

yup...i'm sure it was from the looks of it. the outside is intact but with the amount of flames and smoke i'm sure the inside is beyond repair.

Oh boy, I bet that was something that captured your children's attention for more than a split second or two, eh?!?

Good time to say "now that's why we NEVER play with matches..." Sounds like a blast standing in the rain to watch. I love rain, but I don't get to play in it much.

Oh my... too bad. But I guess it turned out to be an adventure for the kiddos. Its amazing how once something gets stuck in their heads... EVERYTHING becomes about that.

it must be the week for fires! friday in the wee hours, a house in utica went up in flames too. i remember hearing all the sirens during the night and thinking, "uh, oh, something bad is going on"...and then we saw the remains that morning. yikes. let me know if your parents heard anything about it. if i had looked outside when i heard the sirens, i would have been able to see the flames too. scary!
