Afterthought...
We're having Char and Elroy for supper Friday night...do you think they want to come now?!?! Here's an adorable picture of Avrie quite delighted with her rare juice treat:
Tongue in Cheek
Well, I've had a tongue in my freezer for awhile and decided to cook it up before the cat got it (Evan helped with that oh-so-witty commentary). It was absolutely disgusting to cook, skin and chop. It tasted fine...good actually. A sweet, beefy flavor with the texture of firm tofu. Evan ate two Tongue Tacos and Nolan ate all but two bites of his. I had a harder time choking it down and left one bite of my ONE taco. I kept seeing images of the cow chewing it's cud and sticking it's tongue up it's nose. I literally almost threw up each bite I took. But it really did taste good. Really.
This cow seems to have had an injury or piercing of sorts! The hole went through the whole tongue.
Notice the bay leaf to make it delicious!!!
In the process of skinning (while talking to Mom on the phone to keep my mind off the matter)!
Like a snake that shed it's skin.
Looks like dog food.
MMMMMmmmm, yummy Mommy!
I LOVE the look on Evan's face here!

Out of the Mouths of Babes
Mom: Do you want to go swimming this morning?
Nolan: Yeah! I wanna go to the cat one.
Mom: Huh? The 'cat' one??
Nolan: Yeah! The "kitty" pool!

Pure Decadence
I made avocado ice cream this morning! I took it to a Mom's Brunch and everyone liked it...at least they said they did! It is very, very rich and creamy and delicious. Avrie loves it and I feel good about feeding it to her...it's relatively low in sugar and chock full of good healthy fat. Here's the recipe for those who are inclined:
3 ripe avocados, diced
3/4 cup sugar (I used 1/2 cup)
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup heavy cream (do yourself a favor and don't use ultra-pasteurized)
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
big pinch of salt
Dump it all in a food processor and blend until smooth and immediately freeze in ice cream maker.

Gloomy Day
Quite fitting with my mood. I'm so lethargic and irritable and just plain blah this week. Although I did get the organizing bug yesterday and cleaned out my cupboards and fridge. Doesn't take much to have a clean fridge when there is hardly anything in it!! But my current addiction, naan with sour cream and marmalade, doesn't take up much room!
Had a check-up on Nolan's finger yesterday with the orthopedic doctor and everything looks great. He can even go swimming now...just not in a germy lake. He's looking very forward to a bath I think!

Avrie's hair is growing...she's got a duck tail!

Yay, It's Raining!!
I'm so thankful for the rain today. We haven't been home a single day the last week except to sleep. Had a garage sale with Lori, Janell and Char Thur-Sat. My goal was to make enough money to buy the kids a bunk bed and I did it! Well, enough for the bed and the sheets but not the mattresses. Nolan keeps telling Avrie he gets the top. She won't be ready for the bottom bunk for almost a year though so he can sleep on whichever he wants.
Made fresh bread and salsa this morning. Doing never ending laundry and dishes as well. And I'm reading The Kite Runner and can't put it down. It's been on my reading list for ages and I'm finally there and it's unbelievable. The best book I've read so far this year and I'm only on the 6th chapter.
I told Nolan this morning that I don't want him to grow up...that I want him to stay my little boy forever and he said "no, I want to grow up. I want to be tall". Whaaaa =( Evan and I were talking last night about how sad it is that our kids won't remember anything before age 5-ish. I hope my kids love me when they're big.
Nolan is crying more over a hangnail right now than he did over his cut off finger.

Yummy Watermelon
I have terrible luck finding a good watermelon. It just doesn't taste like it did when I was a kid. But I got a good one yesterday!
Nolan's finger looks great today. We went to Chuck E Cheese's with Amy and the kids this morning to keep out of the dirt, heat, etc. His bandage fell off (again) and it looks like it's healing well. He's not complaining about it at all and tells me "it feels okay mommy". As I was slightly freaking out at Chuck E Cheese he told me "it'll be okay mommy, it'll be okay". =) He's a tough one!

Our 1st ER Visit...
Well Nolan had his first ER experience today. He got his little finger in the door and lost the tip. We packed it on ice and went to the ER but they didn't reattach it. The doctor said little kids are like salamanders and parts tend to grow back! He was so, so very brave. He only cried until we got the blood washed off and then he didn't make a peep all the way to the ER except for "Go, go Grandma"! He hardly even whimpered when they gave his finger a numbing shot. So, he has a shorter finger now. There is a little bit of the nail left so hopefully it will grow back in. It is cut on an angle...probably 1/4 inch gone at the biggest part but it looks like a lot more on a tiny 3-year-old finger. I'm hoping this will be the last visit...haha. Now I know why Mom's have grey hair.

It's Not Green...
But still loads of fun!! Nolan's birthday present from Mom and Dad. I'm not sure who likes it more...Nolan or Avrie!
Pleased as can be!
Giving baby (who really isn't a baby anymore) sister a ride.
Nolan growing right out of his PJ's. And these are 3T. And I just started a sentence with "And".
Check out these baby blues.

Happy Birthday Nolan!
Nolan is the big #3 today. Great Aunt Cindy had a birthday party for him on Saturday.
Swimming in Cindy's pool with all my best cousins!
Opening my presents. This is a remote control tractor from Gpa and Gma Farm. The bucket goes up and down and the farmer drives really, really fast. The batteries are still working today!
So, so tired on the way home. It is a 15 minute drive and he fought sleep the whole way. He's trying so hard not to let his eyes close! He finally gave up 2 minutes from home.
Avrie gave up right away.
